Planet of the Arts, vol.4, no.3 GOINGZON NOTICES Rick Williams says: This year’s Annual All College Drawing Show will be replaced by a Draw- ing Exchange Exhibition with the Alberta College of Art during the first two weeks of February, 1989. Twenty-five (25) drawings will be selected by jury. Deadline for submissions is Friday, January 6th, at 4:30 p.m. in the Faculty Lounge. Pick-up rejected work by 4:30 p.m. Monday, January 9th. Each student can submit one (1) work. Student Bursaries Available for Italy: Four bursaries of $500 each will be offered to assist Emily Carr students to participate in the 1989 Florence Program next May 13th, to June 6th. The program offers three weeks of studio instruction along with guided opportunities to view historical art works. Courses are designed to make maximum use of the history, beauty, art and design to be found in Florence and the surrounding countryside. Optional excursions to such places as Venice, Padua, Siena are also organized for the group. The College uses the Santa Reparata Graphic Art Centre, located in the centre of Florence, for the printmaking and photography courses. Partici- pants live nearby in shared apartments that have completely equipped kitchenettes. Students may prepare their own meals and live comfortably at reasonable cost. The Uffizzi Gallery recognizes our students as research scholars and allows them access to the major collection of work in the Uffizzi Print and Drawing Room. There, they may personally handle the work of such artists as Rembrandt, Morandi, Kathe Kallowitz and other major artists. . During the past four years artists and students, from B.C. and from eastern colleges and universities have come together for a memorable three weeks of creative work in Florence. Emily Carr students may use the course credits towards their diplomas. Outside applicants are admitted as professional development students and may use the credits for their personal goals. Next May four courses will take place. Gary Bowden will instruct beginning printmakers in The Painterly Print; this course introduces the techniques of oil or watercolor monoprints. He will also direct an Intaglio Workshop for experienced printmakers to develop their own work. John Wertschek will lead an intermediate level Photog- raphy Workshop that explores the urban and rural aspects of the rich imagery of Tuscany. Joan Martin will teach Perspective Drawing in a course that takes advantage of the city’s Classical, Medie- val and Renaissance sites. Newspaper recycling is ongoing. Drop your newspaper, art paper (no glossies or card) into the barrels next to the green smith-rites en route to Jonathans’ swanky restaurant. The Audio/Visual Department will be closed to normal equipment distribution procedures as of 4:30, Friday December 9. At that time, all equipment should be returned to the Department. Between December 12, and December 21, we will be involved with taking inventory, providing maintenance to the equipment and upgrading specific workstations. There have been numerous requests from students for equipment loans over holidays. As in the past, unless a student has had exceptional circumstances, such as lengthy illness, resulting in their work not being completed, there will be no dis- tribution of equipment during the Christmas break. If you have students that require additional access to equipment due to such circumstances, please forward those requests to me. We will again be open for requests and distribution of equipment on the first day of registration, January 3, 1989.
