9 pipeline: by: chris bradshaw Faculty Evaluation Proceedure: The recent faculty evaluation in this College has come up against some fairly intense criticism in the past few weeks, including the formal notification from the Faculty Associa- tion to proceed with formal grievance proceedures against some of the Evaluation Committees decisions. This is entire- ly within the rights and responsibilities of the Association as written in the Collective Agreement; however, there have been rumour and innuendo circulated throughout the College which is largely uninformed and continues to grow and dist- ort with every telling. As a member of this committee, and a representative of the student body, | find this innuendo disturbing but understandable, since the information used in these meetings is kept strictly confidential. Therefor, any data which has reached the populace of the College has been carefully edited by those concerned, and will inevitably reveal only that which the person involved wishes to be revealed. This is an important fact to keep in mind when considering any such information and must always be taken in context with the source. | must reiterate this point; the decision of the Committee in each case was an extremely fair summation of the situation, based on the information available to us at the time. The pos- ition of the Faculty Association is, that the information available to the Committee was less than-sufficient to base an opinion upon. This remains to be seen, and the proceedure may be compromised by a re-evaluation of those faculty invol- ved. In this event, | feel it my duty to inform the students of this Colleage that the evaluation oroceedure is the most important issue in the College for the students. This democratic proceedure is the only real opportunity for the students to be able to contribute to the continuing respon- sibility of the excellence of art education in British Columbia. In this committee, we, as students are finally taken seriously in the decisions which affect our futures; both as participants in the evaluation proceedure, and as equal votina members in the final decision-making process. We cannot turn our backs on this opportunity, or we will always be regarded as a maninulable commodity.
