As in previous years PY pu we'll celebrate the end of the longest, darkest night of the year and the return of the sun with f cS small lantern processions starting throughout the neighbourhood from 6:00 pm on. Groups iy converge at sequential meeting spots along the seawall (see map below at left). New this year is the free solstice show at the H.R. MacMillan Planetarium (call 738-7827 for details). The show starts at 5:30 pm, so those starting at the Vanier Park sculpture can learn about the scientific aspect of this celestial event before embarking on the celebratory lantern procession at 6:00 pm. Groups will arrive at Sutcliffe Park (south side of the community centre) by 6:45 pm. At 7:00 pm the entire gathering journeys together on a short procession around part of Granville Island. x Everyone returns to the Centre to warm up with performances, hot chocolate, live music and a ies: DE community dance. The Bagel Review Blindfolded Subject: Deb Duer and some Beeny’s Bagels Review #1: Sun Dried Tomato - Review #2: Pumpernickle FEEL: Feels like sandpaper; a little like the heel of my foot. Very FEEL: Another seedy bagel. Tougher than bagel #1. Pulling from seedy... rough; kind of like a handbag or leathery wallet. the centre, there’s not much give — you'd need a lot of strength to pull it apart. oe SMELL: Smells like a gerbil’s cage... kind of like sawdust and gerbil food and gerbil droppings. SOUND: Similar thud - a nice fabric-ripping sound when | rub it across my blindfold. When ripping it apart, it sounds what | SOUND: Good tonal qualities: low thud when banged against table; would imagine a limb being torn from a body would sound crunchy to the squeeze; lots of air pockets in there. Sounds like (more like a stuffed animal’s body than a human body). like sandpaper when you scratch it. Nice trickly sounds when the seeds fall on the table. SMELL: Can’t get much smell off this one. It doesn’t smell like food... it smells a bit like suede, in a very subtle way; but a TASTE: _ It tastes like a gerbil cage (not that I’ve ever tasted one). rough suede, not a soft suede. You know when you’re in an outhouse and you can taste it ‘cause the smell is so strong? Well, this is just the same: It’s TASTE: Very chewy - the kind of bagel that sticks in all your teeth. kind of soury-musty. It tastes a little bit like a tent. It’s musty, and feels like it’s been rolled up for a season... then you get back into it and GUESS: | have no idea wnat flavour it is... olive bread? rye? It just it has that wierd odour. | don’t care for this one too much. tastes like a gerbil cage.
