So Much for Impressionism By Vito S. Cianci There is a student in This School Who hankers for impressionism. She paints furiously And wildly And colorfully— Very colorfully. In fact, She uses every color on her palette On every picture, And says, “What ho, this is the life!” One day she brought some sketches To the Master. The Master criticized And corrected And explained that Design was the whole thing. Every picture must be beautifully and carefully Designed. And lo and behold, this student, This scorner of the usual and lover of the bizarre And scoffer of ordinary everyday Art, Up and said, “But I want my pictures To look like the thing I’m painting!” So much for Impressionism!”
