It is expected that well over one hundred thousand citizens will march across the Burrrard and Cambie Street bridges to end up at the mass rally in the B.C. Place Stadium to express their opposition to Canada’s participation in the Star Wars mentality. _If, as an artist, you believe this objective to be worth- while, your attendance in our demonstration of solidarity is urgently requested. Nothing short of a mass turnout will be politically effective. Artists, art departments, art schools, galleries and col- leges are being contacted, The are asked to inform their own affiliates and come singly or as groups. The organizing committee, after hearing many ideas dis- cussed has decided upon the following structuring of the artists’ participation: Artists (and any friends of art who choose to march with them) should assemble at Kitsilano Park at 11:00 am. Our group will march over the Burrard Bridge. Each marcher in the artists section is requested to wear whatever clothing or original costume they wish but in one total colour only and carry a banner of the same colour on a pole. They are also asked to wear white cotton gloves so that we may achieve an effect of hundreds of exchanged hand greetings of the White Dove Peace Sign (thumbs to- gether, finger wings flapping). Our parade marshal will then group the particpants into colour blocks, each designated by a large colour banner, to form a rainbow spectrum of the entire artists section. Our lead banner will be ARTISTS FOR PEACE. Other colour section banners will carry messages such as ARMS RACE OR HUMAN RACE etc. We want a photogenic, newsworthy mass image of artists as a united group against nuclear war. To carry out this mass impact requires the willing co-op- eration of all artists concerned. If you are interested will you spread the word? If you wish to form a colour group and act together, please do so. If you wishto volunteer to help on a committee please let us know. EVELYN ROTH, who is an old hand at group parades and an expert in costuming will convene a work group to make the larger banners. Our artists’ group has also been asked to design and exec- ute a 20 ft. by 60 ft. backdrop curtain for the speaker’s plat- form in the stadium. JUDY BAXTER, whose design has been chosen, is in charge of this group. Your committee feels this is a great chance for the artists of this area to make themselves visible by a colourful pre- sence for a distinguished cause. We hope you feel the same. Why not join us? __ A “It is not enough to sit at home, watchT.V. and do daily chores.
