Page Thirty-Nine The Closing Exerctses---June, 1926 O N the 15th of June, last year, we were called together for the closing exercises of the school and the presentation of scholarships and prizes. Mr. Scott spoke of the work done by the students and their progress during the year and of the difficulties which had been overcome in start- ing and carrying on the school. He said that the school, as its name implied, was established to train the students in the field of Applied Art. Mr. J. S. Gordon, Municipal Inspector of Schools, presided at the closing and spoke of the School from its beginning and paid tribute to the B. C. Art League, which had been responsible for its founding. He commended Mr. Scott and Mr. Marega highly for their work in making the School a success. ‘Mr. Marega spoke in the name of the B. C. Art League and expressed appreciation for the excellent work done by Mr. Scott and the co-opera- tion given them by the School Board. Brief congratulatory speeches were made by Mr. A. L. McWilliams, Chairman of the School Board; Mr. Jonathan Rogers, and Mr. Tom Fripp. Mr. H. A. Stone presented the scholarships and prizes, the winners being as follows: Miss Phillis Kirkpatrick—British Columbia Institute of Architects Scholarship for $50. Fred Amess—Vancouver Exhibition Scholarship for $50. Miss Margaret Williams—Vancouver Exhibition Scholarship for $25. Miss Katherine Harrison — Vancouver Exhibition Scholarship in Modelling for $25. Miss Ada Currie—British Columbia Society of Fine Arts Scholar- ship for $25. Miss Arlene Kirkpatrick—Trades and Labor Prize of $10 for Pro- ficiency in Design. Miss Ellen Moore—R. J. Cromie Prize of $10 for General Proficiency.
