pipeline: Bye chris bradshaw OPEN DRAWING CANCELLATION By any chance, has anyone noticed that the Open Drawing session on Thursdays has been cancel led?Well, if you have and would like to know why, here's the scoop; At the last Board of Trustees meeting, we were all informed that the’ College was facing a projected deficit fn this year's budget, to the tune of $8,000. At that time, Barry Long (Bursar) mentioned that some revision of the budget would be necessary in order to balance(it is it!- egalto have a deficit budget). With thts In mind, we move on to January 8, when the College recieved a letter from the Vancouver Guild of Artists Models (a newly formed gro: of about 40 models), who advised thetAdministration of their intention to raise their fees from $7.00 per hour to $10.00 per hour. As a result of this letter, a motion was passed at the Dean's Committ< meeting, January 12, implementing the raise for the models. Shortly the: after, the ‘Open Drawing’ was cancelled, likely as aresult of this !n- crease in expense. Once again, it seems that the students take second priority in this situation; no attept was made by the Administration to contact the model's guild and explain the situation. No effort was made to negot~ jiate a rate of pay lower than $10.00 per hour, in exchange for more available hours of work for their members and subsequent continuation of the drawing sessions for the students. ...S0 what happens? The models have less work, the students lose their drawing session and the Administration comes closer to a balanced budge! -..50 who benifits? This poll is a feasibility study, implemented by the Administration to determine the ‘cost per student’ statistics of keeping the College open on the weekends. It will Inevitably be used by Hudson & Co. to justify , via cost analysis. ( a very effectivetoo] when. dealing with board members), further closures of the College, to''save money". . cont...
