Editor’s Ramble rants/mantfestos Well, here it is, another ramble about the theme of the month. And boy do | have something to rant about (for now | will ignore the second word of the theme). First let me say that | apologize for the quality of this Editor's note (although you may find that | always have an excuse for what | write). It has been crazy here in Influx World these past two weeks, and amidst all the madness | plum forgot about the little monthly assignment of an editorial that | stuck myself with. | am sitting here, on my ten-minute break from class, trying to squeeze out at least a somewhat interesting note to amuse you, the reader. Let me just say that computers suck. While trying to learn all the things that an art direc- tor does in the span of a couple days (with no prior experience | might add), my computer and my printer decided that it was the perfect time to fuck up. So, instead of making this the most beautiful issue ever, | wasted my precious energy fighting with technology. And on top of it all | had to move this past weekend. So, |'m a little bitter right now, and am of the mindset that | don’t get paid enough to put up with this shit. (Actually | don’t get paid enough to do a tenth of what | do.) Maybe I'm just miffed cause it all seems like a thankless task. Too much effort for not enough recognition. And frankly that's what it comes down to. | want to be patted on the back. | want to be celebrated. | want to inspire awe in people. | want to be famous. So there you go. That's what's on my mind these days of woe. That's my verbal spewage. Oh, and | guess | should say a little more directed remark about the choice of this theme, rants/manifestos. We felt that for once we would fill these pages with opinion only and not ask for factual verification, not question what the author says. All great thoughts start with rants, all great societal changes start with someone who has an idea, a manifesto. So here you are. The ideas of the ones who will change your world. Influx Mandate InFlux Magazine exists as a forum for ECIAD stu- dents to communicate intelligent and thoughtful artworks and writing concerning the world of art to the city of Vancouver. Run by ECIAD students, InFlux does not exclude the contributions of staff, faculty, alumni and others outside of the institute. InFlux, as well as showcasing the artworks of ECIAD students also contains writings about art, design, and media arts and issues related to and influencing these disciplines. The styles of writing are as diverse as the students and includes creative writing, commentary, theory and critical writing, as well as news and reviews. InFlux is meant to pro- vide an alternative voice, highlighting new perspec- tives and ways of looking at both new and old ideas while engaging and inspiring its readers.
