GRAD SHOW POLICY: A New Way to Balance the Budget

Once again, my training at the Dick Tracy Detective College
has paid off, with the result being yet another example of
Administrative policy which only serves to disadvantage the
students of this College. | am talking of the annual Grad
Show and the way in which it is being mismanaged by the
administration. ;

First of all, it should be pointed out that the Graduation
Exhibition is part of the requi cement for graduation . This,
in itself is questionable, butrit results in the manipulation
of the student body, it becomes necessary to react against
such discriminatory practices. Included is a list of quest-
ionable policies being implimented by the Administration:

Unpaid Student Labor- The graduating students are forced
to spend extra-curricular time cleaning and painting the
entire College. This is the responsibility of the Facilities
Manager and any such maintenance work to the structure of the
College should be designated to union employees. This act is
an attempt by the administration to reduce cost over-run by
manipulating students into working for nothing, under the
guise of curricular activity. One graduating student stands
to lose $1200.00 in wages, by being forced into spending an
extra month in the College. If the students are going to be
forced to spend extra-curricular work time in the College,
then they should be paid for it.
Discrepencies in Catalogue- No mention of the need for
Students to remain at the College an additional three
weeks is made in the catalogue. Students budget untill the
end of April and often have little or no funds after that
time.
Grad Budget used for Building Maintenance-The allotment for
the Grad Show this year is $8000.00. This is to cover all
expenses, such as publicity and materials. Out of this sum,
$2400.00 - $3300.00 is being used to-buy paint to refinish
the entire College! Students may wonder that the Administ-
ration can afford $10,000.00 to furnish windows above the

Printmaking area, but find it necessary to pull funds from

the graduation budget, in order to purchase paint.
