= THIRD YEAR DESIGN

IT HAS BEEN SAID OFTEN THAT THE

cultural level of a people can best be judged by the quality of its sculpture and its
architecture.

If this is true, design students play an important part in the cultural advance-
ment of our day. We are doing our best to develop original and practical architec-
ture, adapted to our own locality. Along with the exterior aspects of a building
we consider its interior design and furnishings. And furnishings include the appli-
cation of many kinds of crafts.

The urge to create something of original design by our own hands makes
pottery, wood painting, applied cloth design, and different types of wall panels
very interesting work. As the different techniques are almost mastered by the third
year, we are able to spend much more time on developing our own ideas. And now
we know what we are seeking—a way to finer design, both in architecture and in
the home.
