That your Vol. 14 #2 presented her self-exposure, rather than the critical understanding so richly earned by both Brush with Illumination by Simpson and Welcome to the Land of Light by Tsang cries out: "Some editing required!" Both of these sculptors have created a laudable bridge between the urban neighborhood and the sculpted reality. Our awareness is connected to the artist's muse or theme of each piece seen in its setting. The materials evoke the structure of their placement; one on land braced and rein- forced while reflecting the energy of development, the other kinetic, driven by the forces of its fluid medium, ever changing yet functional in more ways than a Coast Guard Buoy. | particularly appreciated the single point of contact between the land and the sea represented by the con- necting orb atop the scaled center pylon. As the tide rises and falls the orientation of the entire work alters and changes its horizontal orientation influenced by the water and air currents. The "spacy" fabrication and orientation of the pointer conceptually unite the land, sea and sky. In every way these welcome additions to the public art of Vancouver strike a resonance with the highest of human sensibilities.
