ber Nee - D-F | O -R | Aa NEARLY FIFTEEN YEARS HAVE PASSED since the first annual of the Vancouver School of Decorative and Applied Arts was published. Since that time each year has seen an equally determined and success- ful effort to put the art school on the map artistically. The graduates of the school have had a very important role in this venture and it is to them we would say thank you. May our future graduates continue in the quality of work exemplified by our former students and continue to make the Vancouver School of Art stand for excel- lence of creative effort and craftsmanship. ‘’There is yet so much to do—we can- not fail,’’ to quote from the Paint Box, 1929. To the present students | would say that in a world so disorganized and chaotic there is a desperate need for sane thinking. And as artists we have a great responsibility to the world. For the artist is a universal being. He speaks to us of our common experiences—of joy, of delight, of wonder, of loveliness, of sorrow, of hope, and of dreams—and so unites humanity that men are one with the past, one with the present and one with the future. We have a need of universality. Let the artist speak.
