The limited stage space was put to very good use and although not entirely original (think Cats or Stomp) the “set was quite appropriate and allowed for a lot of versatility. There were some vocalists who needed a few lessons and some that were wonderful. Some parts were overacted but some were just right. All-in-all, it balanced out to be just another production of Hair. Hannibal Directed by Ridley Scott Starring Anthony Hopkins and Julianne Moore reviewed by Corinna vanGerwen This is a very disturbing film. Perhaps | am a wimp but there were a number of people running out of the theatre. | have never seen a more suitable example of gratuitous violence. What happened to the good old suspense shots; where more is left up to the imagination? Now, | wouldn't go so far as to say that Hannibal should have some scenes censored but please Mr. Ratings Man, let me know what I'm walking into! My recommendation for a possible warning. 'No person with a heart condition, a weak stomach, or any sense of humanity should see this film.’ Besides which there were too many holes in the story to uphold that type of violence. Hard Rubber Orchestra The Vancouver East Cultural Centre February 12th, 2001. reviewed by Corinna vanGerwen | suppose | was slightly disappointed when the show turned out to be more of an effort in free jazz than traditional modes. The first half with Brad Turner was almost great. There were some enlightened moments but there was a lot of what | would just call noise. | guess the biggest part was that | discovered that | need my music to either have a rhythm or a melody. The second half started with a quartet led by two French dudes, Jean Derome and Pierre Tanquay. | can describe this in no better way than it was very French. | can't quite figure out why people would pay for this and not for the noise my friends and | made the week before with a keyed flute thing, a recorder, and a gourd flute. Call me narrow-minded, but that ain't music. 1067 undisclosed location Letter-writers and contributors please take note: Influx reserves the right to amend or refuse material in the interest of a respectful exchange of well-con- sidered thoughts within the justifiable limits of a free and democratic society.
