on business." We go on business—surely—we go to sketch. The refueling of a plane takes up our attention at first and then the S.S.S.A. plane—a purple and gold low-winged monoplane, taxis down the runway and takes off into the wind. We are thrilled—yet not speechless—the favorite expression being “golly""—which, in English is Bah jove! Plane after plane follows and we watch the landings and take-offs with great ‘nterest. We enter the hangars and examine all the different planes— we get as far into the cockpits as possible and take great interest in the dials and ‘nstruments—and then we walk up to the glider. Gliding must be a wonderful experience—drifting 300 feet up in the air, with the air currents—like a bird. We intend to try gliding some day—at present we find it quite exciting to sit on the little yellow glider and work the controls. We have grown accustomed to seeing the pilots in their oggles and helmets and the grease-monkeys working on their planes. All of a sudden—Rolie glances at her watch and finds we have only ten | minutes to make Art School and come down from the clouds to life study. We realize that we have been carrying sketching materials around with us all this time—we laugh—sketching?—at the Airport? Sketching! with whirling propellors and humming motors all around us and above us? Why it simply isn't donell We arrive back at school breathless, excited, and all talking at once of Fairchild Wasps and Gypsy Moths and Lockheed-Vegas, etc. We three are really working hard in our last year at school, and next June we hope to receive our pilot's license (diplomas) and we wonder, oh, we wonder if we are artists-to-be or pilots-to-be—and we wonder whether ‘+ would be nicer to have the letters R.A. after our names or R.C.A.F. Our advice to those of you who would like a few thrills is to visit the Airport, the Jericho Beach station of the R.C.A.F. and the Airland sea- plane base—ond to those of you who would sketch—these are the very last places we advise you to go to.
