OUTSIDE / IN A Proposal for a Fall Term Show in the Concourse Gallery The Part-Time Students Working Group is formally submitting its proposal for a Concourse Show, to be held towards the end of the Fall Term. PREAMBLE: For some reason, which is totally unknown to part-time students, their fall art production has not been considered worthy of display in the Concourse Gallery. Moreover, Concourse Shows in the past other than the Spring PTS exhibit have not made any concerted attempt to include PTS participants. Finally, the proposal deadline of September 16th is too early in the PTS calendar for Part- Time Students to put together any other proposals other than this one. It would be unsur- prising if the Gallery Proposal Review Committee was lacking in PTS representation. THEME/CONCEPT: OUTSIDE/IN Outside/In is a concept that operates on a number of levels: * a dialectic exploration as the nature of the artistic process a celebration of the inclusion of the PTS student at ECIAD an exploration utilizing 2-D, 3-D and 4-D media (performance) an occasion or recognition of progress/change an opportunity for documenting in writing, or on film/video the experiences of PTS Students at ECIAD ORGANIZATION: Kitty Mykka, as chief advisor, and other faculty advisors will lend their talents to ensure the success of this initiative. The Part-time Students Working Group and its class liaisons will assist in the collection of works, and in the general organizing of the Outside/in show. CURATORIAL PROCESS: The theme of the Outside/In show will be communicated to instructors early in the term. Works will be selected throughout the fall term with the cooperation of all PTS instructors. Regular communication with instructors will occur over the course of the term. Estimated number of participants would be 50-75 artists, with the possibility of additional participants contingent upon the rotation of the exhibits throughout the course of the show. - ice crystal fruit juices - soup + sandwich specials - chilli + rice meal deal - pasta dishes SOUND + LIGHT sound equipment to accommodate musical performances (mixer, amp, speakers, microphones, cables, hanging bars) e lighting for stage performance (strong spots, floods with gels, dimmer, control board) e projector and screen for films and videos Needed: - leads on used audio-visual equipment Who to contact at this time: | % Py Steve Brekelmans, Jonathan Middleton, Steve Maxwell = —F eS honor ie lay ey: (33 ¢/Ib.) ey SAced CURT K [USEC] NE DESIGN: FURNITURE, STAGE, WALLS design of a floor plan that shifts between performance events, social gatherings, and food service e specification of furniture that establishes the character of the lounge, and that is both durable and flexible e purchase recommendations for furniture (new/used) y° specification and purchase recommendations for lighting to create appropriate contexts for day- time versus evening use *e design of exhibition space and exhibition lighting for the display of Emily Carr student art work, including the possibility of an installation space Needed: - leads on used furniture and lighting - input from all students to a general survey (forthcoming) and to exhibits of drawings (also forthcoming) Who to contact at this time: Saleem Khattak, Wendy Nishimura, Brian Gallant, Theresa Magee Lounge A SPACE / AN ATTITUDE * MAKE/DO is the working name for the social and performance space that is evolving as a collaboration between the Lounge Working Group, Jamm Caterers, and the Facilities Department. + MAKE/DO is the attitude of getting on with a project despite numerous obstacles and uncertainties, and despite limited resources such as time and money. * MAKADO is a variation of MAKE/DO that is easier to pronounce. ‘uth the following: decaf espresso ce erst fut juices Soup + sandwich specials cil + ice meal dea pasta dishes abuse the poo! table OUTSIDE / IN ‘A Proposal for a Fall Term Show in the Concourse Gallery Scot Farsome eto, kh ay rio pare sais, eal an odo as eben cons by oa Canc Gay Mere Conne Stes pas car an Seng PTS eahet hve nt nase (iy scared aenet once Pe pens aly. propel ein of Sapa 10 ton ety ta PTS ct Pa ‘ip Senso pope ay eer pers er hn sob wo noi rong Gaiety Propo iw Cone was wcen nPTS pene reese 3 cramer ig, nine ‘Soteoan & 8 Suet ESAS ey tsa cl avs cya lan eo esr ‘SElataf tar nate The Pore Sues Won Gop ae cas haar me ‘Stine atest wots ann Be ener ampaneng ce Osea sow ‘meme tha Out show wt be conan o tne neon ‘Waa nb enced rupee wah operon eo PFS eco api conmarcaton win rans soo ore oe me ate be priate nob 59.75 rat, wb pasty of asa arcs congo opon te ean om wie uae cue ae om Mark, Alice (ight) and Jolene (absent) are planning to expand the food service mend = Ently Bid Special (muffin + coffee) Special request rom Alice: Please do not October 1996 / Planet of the Arts 15 DESION: FURNITURE, STAGE, WALLS. ‘+ design ofa floor plan that shifts ‘between performance events, socal gatherings, and food service + Specifiation of furniture that ‘establishes the character of the Jounge, and that is both durable and flexible A + purchase recommendations for furniture (new/used) + specification and purchase recommeridations for lighting to ‘reate appropriate contexts for day time vers evening use + design of exhibition space and ‘exhibition lighting fr the display ‘of Emily Carr student art work, Including the possbility of an installation space Needed: Teads on used furniture and fom all students to a general survey (forthcoming) and to exhibits of drawings also forthcoming) SOUND + LIGHT + sound equipment to accommodate musical performances (mixer, amp, speakers, microphones, cables, hanging bars) + lighting fo stage performance (strong spots floods with gels, dimmer, contro board) ‘+ projector and screen for films and videos Who to contact at this time: Steve Brekelmans, Jonathan Middleton, Steve Maxwell Who to contact at this time: Saleem Khattak, Wendy Nishimura, Brian Gallant, Theresa Magee
