St., a show entitled “Quarantine” will run until
February 20th. There are six artists exhibiting.

Dominique Brechault, Matthew Crossin,
Matthew Anderson, Daniel Jans, David Leith, and
Tracy Suter; most are ECCAD graduates.

You have until February 8th to see the latest in
Streetsmart Art from the “Rebel without a brain”
himself, 12 Midnite. The show is running at the soon-
to-be late great Arts Club Lounge, 1181 Seymour
Street. They will no longer be booking alternative local
bands as them punk rockers just don’t spend enough
money on alcohol to keep the joint afloat. On the 5th
and 6th of February, catch the closing party of 12
Midnite’s show with music by the artist and the
“Masters of Male Bonding” themselves, Curious
George.

There will be one last 4 or 5 band blow-out either
the 7th or the following week at the Arts Club,
featuring Curious George and hopefully, The
Spores.

The Concourse Gallery at ECCAD has exhibits
coming up from 4th year painter Nicola Swaine, the
week of January 25th to 31st. Swaine is painterly and
figurative, with a theoretical background to her work.
The following week is an exhibition of works by 2-D
and Printmaking students Heather Gili, Patti
Smithson, Jan Leinbach, and Darwin Wasend. Gill
works extensively with the collograph, Smithson with
Intaglio, Leinbach with a variety of 2-D media, and
Wasend with lithography, and lately, monotype.

The SAG exhibition “It’s Classical” runs to
February 21st. The show features work by local biue-
chipper Christos Dikeakos and ’87 ECCAD graduates
Sam Lam and Ann McLaren. (Read the review in this

3-D student Rudy Zator is showing sculptures at
the Pitt International Galleries, 36 Powell. Come to
the opening February 15th, at 8 p.m. The show runs
to March 5th.

The Perel Gallery, the student run space at 122
W. Hastings is featuring the work of 3rd year U.Vic.
scu!pture students, February 4th through the 13th.
From the 18th to the 27th, watch for “Dwelling
Places”, an installation by 4th year ECCAD students
Virginia Achtem and Lesley Clarke.

MacEwen Arts Ltd., a supply store with gallery
space run by ’87 ECCAD grad Brad Chernoff is
featuring an installation by classmates Dave Steele
and Tom Wren. “Cannon” will run from February 1st
to Valentines Day, after which 4th year student John
Ferry will exhibit oil paintings. Ferry’s show will run to
the 28th. This is not a leap year, otherwise the show
would run to the 29th.

In faculty notes, both past and present, the BAG
leaves you until the 31st of January to see Nora
Blanck’s pastel works, “Navel to the Universe”.
Carl Sagan, whose critique of art is lesser known than
his work in astronomy, points out that in the navel of
the universe, a single speck of belly-button lint would
be the size of an exploding sun. The VAG features a
retrospective of ECCAD I-D and art history instructor
lan Wallace’s work. The show runs from February 5th
to the 3rd of April. This actualization of the objectified
photo-image in this region’s premier legitimizing
institution will unquestionably promote discourse.
Lithography instructor Steve Nelson is showing his
“Monumental Lithographs’ to the end of January at
the Davidson Galleries, 1915 First Avenue, Seattle,
‘Mericuh.

The Charles H. Scott Gallery will show “Com-
plex Objects/Simple Forms”, an exhibition former CHS

In the world outside of ECCAD, the FCGWF has
“Politically Speaking”, paintings by Mary Scott,
installation by Rita McKeough, and performance by
Marcella Bienvenue to the end of February. That’s at
204 - 456 W. Broadway.

The Or Gallery, still inhabiting and surviving at
505 Hamilton, 3rd floor is showing paintings by Julie
Duschesnes and Mark Grady to January 30th. You
have until February 13th to see “In the Vernacular’, 5
artists work occupying 6 windows at the Arts, Sci-
ence, and Technology Centre.

Major league Canadian artist Liz Magor, whose
work has appeared in international contemporary art
exhibitions such as Fokus Canada in Cologne and
Documenta 8 will present “Eighteen Books”, a multi-
media installation

at the VAG through February 28th. This exhibi-
tion was first shown here in Mise en Scene, a 1982
exhibition organized by the VAG, and later purchased
for the permanent collection.

In order to get that capital D to sew on your
ECCAD school sweater, you had better submit work
to the “All-College Drawing Show”, which runs in
the Concourse from the week of February 15th to the
21st. The submission deadline is 4:30, February
12th, in the Faculty lounge.

The Ink and Clay Sale

Printmakers and ceramic students bowed to the
pressures of capitalism last month and parted with
their cherished works of art so that they might once
again have money to feed themselves and their
landlords. The occasion was, of course, the annual
Ceramic and Print Sale, held in early December. The
sale was attended (despite the pouring rain) by
discriminating connoisseurs anxious to aquire works
of the “not yet famous” and “may never be famous”,
but what the hell, it matched the couch. The combined
revenue from both departments was close to 12,000
dollars, which bought a lot of plane tickets home for
Christmas. Approximately 15 to 20% of the money
from the sale returned to the departments. This
money will be used to enrich the programs through
such means as field trips, guest lecturers, a coffee
maker, and a telephone.
