GAMBADO — Recent prints by Bruce Walther and draw-
ings by Dean Mitchell. Open afternoons 12 to 5 on
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday until February
25th.

B.C. Exhibition of Children’s Art

Entries are invited for the first B.C. Exhibition of Children’s
Art, which will be held at the new Robson Square (B.C. Building)
in Vancouver during October. 1979. It will tour the province from
November 1979 through May 1980. The first exhibition will
consist of 200 framed works selected by a Provincial Advisory
Committee.

The aim is the encouragement of original creative work.
Therefore, entries should be selected from recent work, and need
not be produced specially for the exhibition. Teachers and stu-
dents are encouraged to save works of art over the coming month.
We hope children will participate in the selection of their own
entries.

All children whose work is entered must be residents in B.C.
and aged under 19 on September 1, 1979. Entries accepted only
from March 3rd to March 23rd. Further information and entry
forms can be obtained from ECCA, 249 Dunsmuir Street.

This exhibition is organized by the Outreach Program, Emily
Carr College of Art.

‘s NAME KIDNAPPED

‘s name has been kidnapped and is being held for ran-
som by a terrorist group. The Y X press has received a copy of
the ransom letter which has been sent to British Columbia Premier
Bennett.

The letter indicates that a group has been formed as a result
of the Social Credit’s alleged actions of exploitation of ‘s
name. The group calls itself “‘C.A.L.O.” or the “college of art
liberation organization.” Nothing is known about this organi-
zation except it would appear from its name that individuals from
the College of Art are responsible in some way.

The letter states that Premier Bennett’s government ™. . . is
shamefully misusing the name of - and exploiting it in
the name of tourism.” Her name is being held for $50,000 ransom
to be deposited with the Vancouver Art Gallery for the restora-
tion of her works.

This places the government in the awkward position of either
meeting the demands of the terrorist group, or appearing ridiculous
for claiming to honour by naming the College of Art
after her, while her work slowly deteriorates.

As of this date no response has been given by the government.
