e ELEMENTARY Fr™ most diversified occupations df »» and of most diversified nation- % alities come the many members of the Elementary Drawing Class. Here working with quiet enthusiasm side by side are Russian, Japanese, Nor- wegian, Swedish, English, Scotch, Irish, Australian and Canadian stud- -¥ ents. The keynote of the class is enthusiasm for work. Under the D R A W N G inspiration of Mr. Val Shabaeff, they come from store, school, mill, factory or home to night school. No effort is discouraged and originality in treatment is given every encouragement by a wise and understanding instructor. It is by this pooling of ideas and experiences that we may hope for progress in drawing. Each nation even as represented by this group is contributing something to the Art of Canada. From Norway and Sweden a love of wood carving and lovely embroideries; from the Britis Isles comes a wealth of cultural background; from Canada and Australia strength and courage to find original ideas; from Japan a love of nature as represented in embroidery and delicate prints; from Russia a rich glor of colour, as manifested in embroidery and design. From the contributions of all nationalities and from the eage enthusiasm of an elementary class let us hope that an interest has been started which will continue to develop and be a joy to all.
