February 2, 2000 A positive showing of 80 to 100 Emily Carr Students' and their friends joined in solidarity to protest Federal-funding cuts to education. We marched chanting and waving signs and dragging a symbol of our student debt in the form of a giant boulder. We met up with the other demonstrators in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery and joined a larger rally in support of restoring social program funding to education. The festivities continued on at the Plaza of Nations where all in attendance were treated to a free concert. | was personally pleased that the demonstration proceeded without any incidences of violence or arrest. CFS Provincial General Meeting - Nanaimo Approximately 100 delegates attended the meeting, from across the province of BC. We discussed campaign policy, finance and other topics pertinent to the Federation. The main focus of the meeting was concerned with the Access 2000 campaign and the history of the student movement across Canada. The event was a success and we have a new provincial chairperson named Anita Zoenker who will take over the position previously held by Mark Veerkamp. The weekend meeting was capped off with a drag show at a local Nanaimo bar. | encourage Emily Carr Students to attend future provincial and national general meetings.
