Reminiscent of the pho- tos of his teacher, Jeff Wall, Lee captured moments in everyday life which hold interesting compositions and hidden meanings. Lee’s work was typ- ical of photographs describing Vancouver: as a hippy city with a mish- mash of cultures, "Vancouver specials" gigantic malls, franchise chains and an Asian population that cannot be ignored. In the face of mass con- sumerism, oversized grocery stores and movie theatres, he has made us glimpse a moment where we realize we have not changed. Insomnia, money and success plague us, but we are still human: in need of comfort, love and security. Lee's work was copycat, but was highly stimulating and nostalgic of our little city we call home.
