Crash Test Dummies God Shuffled His Feet BMG Naked Soul ; __ Visiting Your Planet by Owen Falkiner AG So how about those Crash Test Dummies? Just like the by Nickie Senger previous album, all the songs are nice. Just like the previ- ous album, the baritone drone of the singer guy gets really old after a while. It may heave been just like the previous al- bum except for a new and improved, polished studio sound. The re- sult is a shamefully over-pro- duced disc, with so much icing (or cheese) you can’t taste the cake. The one thing that made the band what it was is glazed over with mechanical guitar overdubs and stupid keyboard samples. Where’s the trade- mark traditional sound? | can understand that they would not want to clone their first aloum, © but like my Old Man used to Say, “Son, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix rs aes Boom-boom-bada-boom. Boom-boom-bada- boom. Neer-neer-neer-neer. Boom-boom-bada- boom. Ohbaybee, baybee yeah! You've heard ita million times and no thanks to Naked Soul you can hear ita million times more. Unoriginal guitar pop trying to be passed off as new, “alternative” music, Egad. Thankfully they’ re just ‘visiting’ our planet, maybe they won't stay long. Pluto Pretty Little Jacket/Rock Candy rT hoe by Nickie Senger For starters, | can’t get “Pretty Little Jacket” out of my head. I’m walking down the street, or sitting on the bus and | hear it. First it’s the vocals. Sort of nasally, but not uptight, a laid-back whine | guess. Very intrigu- ing. Then that sweet pop sound comes flowing in and I’m the day. And this is only after two listens. On the flipside a different, : guys, but this song is swoonable. Not that it’s.a sissy song, in fact it’s a beautiful tune, but for any red-blooded woman “sigh” is the first thing that comes to mind. Both songs are polished, tight, and deserve to be heard. From what I’ve ingested, | think Pluto are (dare | say it?) out of this world. Pigface Truth Will Out Invisible Records by Nickie Senger Pigface is a band, which throughout its lifetime, has boasted some of the most impressive names in psychotic music history. En Esch, Ogre, Martin Atkins, Trent Reznor, Bill Rieflin, Chris Connelly, and David Yow, to name a few. On Truth Will Out, their fifth full length album, Pigface showcases live ver- sions of mostly previously released songs and intro- duces some new piglets to the rest of the world, while others seem to have left us for the slaughter — house. As usual, Pigface bombards us with unintelligi- ble, grating, eclectic noise that we eagerly consume. While some. of the songs tend to drag on, the majority of tunes ss deliver competent Pigface atrocities. So go ahead, be bold, be daring, pick this one up. You'll love it, and hate it, and then love it some more. God and Texas Criminal Element Restless Records/T.K.O. Empire by Nickie Senger So what are God and Texas all about? I'd say, from listening to Crminal Element, that they are about heavy, vertigo inducing punk. The kind that starts as a twitch of the head, slowly lead- ing to jaw grinding seriousness, which travels down to the pit of your stomach only to writhe around and spit itself out in a steaming mass of raw emotion. They could also be about the bully you always wanted to kick the crap out of in school, or the drunken creep on the bus at night who hits on all the women, or maybe even the pitbull who chewed your chihuahua. Or maybe not. In any case, Crimi- nal Element is the perfect ambi- ent music for locking yourself in = your room in a fit of rage and pummeling the wall with your fists until you collapse.
