THE INSTITUTE december 1997 / planet of the arts 41 Preparing for Emily's Big Anniversary Year 2000 Activities he first meeting of the Year 2000 Committee brought together representatives of the Institute community on October 19th at the home of Sam Carter (Committee Chair). Committee membership includes: Denise Cordrey and Bill Cupit (staff); Natalie Purschwitz, Chris Jones and Man Dao (students); Sheila Hall, Paul Mathieu, and Sandra Semchuk (faculty) and Allyson Vanstone and Deborah Shackleton (administration). Elizabeth Atmore, Chair of the ECIAD Foundation Board also attended this important inaugural meeting. The mandate of the committee is to encourage community involvement in the development of projects and activities in recogni- tion of ECIAD’s 75th Anniversary and for Year 2000 celebrations. After lengthy discussion and “brainstorming” it was decided to focus on an number of proposed projects and to encourage greater participation from the internal community, friends of Emily, alumni, - and community partners. Committee members forwarded notes and responses to our initial discussion for this article. These statements are a “first step” towards gathering ideas about celebrating the 75th Anniversary of Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, and the death/birth of the Millennium.
