IN A BOX, WITH A FOX

I love to go to K-Mart. It's one of my favourite places on Earth.¥
I especially like the one in Bellingham. .

Even parking your car a K-Mart is fun. I like fun. Once when I
parked my car at a K-Mart there was a woman in a seventy-three Impala |
in the spot next to me. She was. talking to herself and she had a large §
tattoo. .This really happened.

The smell of the eooreen Machine throughout the store is fun. So
is the music they provide for the pleasure of the shoppers. Once I :
drove with a friend to Bellingham in his dad's Oldsmobile Cutlass. We 4
listened to the Perry Como demo eight-track that came with the car. :
When we walked into the K-Mart they were playing the same tape. The
world is filled with all sorts of coincidences isn't it? As ani added
thought I must say that theresis really nothing quite like driving
through an industrial landscape ina Cutlass with the windows rolled
up and Perry Como playing. I think it's the closest you can get to
death without really dying. s. |

I really enjoy. playing with the- seed rack in the garden. aids
department. It's ‘fun. “Once when. L-was playing with the seed rack I
heard over the loudspeaker that there was a ‘thirty minute sale on
video games. On my. way there I caught a‘whiff of the clothing section
and I couldn't resist going there instead.: On the way there I caught
a glimpse of the in-store-cafeteria so I had ’t6 go check. it out.

If any of you aré familiar with the layout of the Bellingham
K-Mart then you know that the television department is right next to
the cafeteria. So is the gun department. Iwas there on:a Saturday §&
and it was jammed, a

Fun is fun, bit T ring that I can tale only so mch of K-Mart =
before I need to leave. I don't want to overdase on fun so I don't :
enjoy it the next time I'm there. a

On the way back from Bellingham I drive ‘through Lynden. I buy gas &
there. There aré an awful lot of churches in Lynden. It reminds’ me a
alot of those small ‘towns that Steven King writes about in his novels. :
