Come to think of it this whole writeup is beginning to sound quite strange, I’m sure. My intention, however, is not to go ‘bible thumping’ or tripping the ‘new age fantastic’, but to call to attention that the hostile nature in most people is onan uprise. Most of us would like to think of our- selves as decent folks, but there are En Earl Stefanyshen people who would, with ease strongly argue against gays, francophones, dif- ferent races and different cultures. This is happening, look to the news and you'll know what I’m going on about. This is an odd thing to go on about because, quite frankly, where does the solution lie? We have the Soviet Union falling into it’s original bits and already the different states are starting to bicker. The mess in what used to be Yugoslavia is becoming more and more brutal and senseless, anti-Semitism is on upswing not only in Europe but in the States, more than likely here as well. Is this the collapse of our societies/ countries of the human race in its in- fancy here? Obviously we’re prob- ably going to avoid nuking ourselves off the planet, instead are we going to slaughter ourselves face to face?? The problems were all seeing around us may be painfully obvious to most who read this, but my point again is if most of us realize it’s happening, who re- ally cares enough to be willing to try a different approach? You can’t really look at all this and think it’s a pile of ‘new-age’, ugly prophecy bullshit, these things are increasing and it’s not stopping. Not yet. Let’s hope that this is a natural transition of the race, at least this part of it. Perhaps this has got to hap- pen in order to go on, hostility isin our nature so I guess there is no avoiding it. Perhaps, however, we could be- come a bit more reserved and in con- trol of it all. Oh nuts, who knows? I’m lazy about it. It’s too much of a chore to think seriously about it. I’m feeling too lazy to think of any solutions. Maybe I’m too tired of being nice. And perhaps that is the problem with most of Canada and the world. Wake up! It’s now time to be NICE, not angry. DIALOGUE WITH REALITY by Alison Abell When you’ve given yourself some time to think about the entire situation, you come to a conclusion: despite all the times you absolutely wished you hadn’t been there; putting up with screaming children and the occasional impolite customer; you decide that deep down, you actu- ally enjoyed your position. But now everything you loved and disliked will disap- pear. Eight months of hard work is soon going toend. No more crazy Saturdays and Sundays. No more struggling to balance at the end of the day. No more income. Ahhhhh!!!! Are you now a statistic, one of just a big number? Are you on the verge of tears, shrouded in black, imagining the worst possible scenarios for the future ? No, no, certainly not !! ‘ You can’t let this defeat you,’ someone says quietly. Everything must end eventually, even if it isn’t terribly convenient. Sure, plenty of things happen all the time that can pull you under a little, but that’s all part of the master plan. Life certainly wouldn’t be very interesting if everything always went the way you wanted it to. Ups and downs provide variety to what would otherwise be a very mundane existence for all of us. So you'll survive. Life doesn’t stop because of a mere snag. You’ve got plenty of time and countless opportuni- ties are out there just waiting to be found. However, this doesn’t mean that you can sit back and wait for things to happen. Of course you can relax a little, but an effort must be made in order to obtain something. You already knew that, though. And while you received something unexpected for Christmas this year, it wasn’t all that unpleasant. A small dose of reality with some optimism on the side can’t hurt once in a while.
