Scene: A cottage at a summer resort.
Time: Middle of June.

T IS a rainy June morning at Alta Lake, a summer resort
in the mountains of British Columbia. The first part of the
. action or inaction takes place in a small cabin by the lake-
side. The rain is literally thundering down on the roof, the winds
whistle outside. Three camp-beds covered with vermillion blankets
old up four depressed looking specimens of humanity, who are
sprawled over them in various ‘‘informal’’ attitudes. The four fig-

ures are clothed in hiking boots, breeches and sweaters, and have
