Expressions of art have had to contend with the battle between self awareness and self destruction. Humankind has never stopped quietly working on transactions of hope. It is my opinion that we have never been so close to going beyond our own destructivity. Yet the cultivation of this goal is in blight. Somehow we have allowed the magic of our soles to be placated. Our nature is to be so benevolent and cooperative that we have obliged our very survival to a concentration of conglomerance that act as gate keepers of almost all elements of cognition. As the media merges into even fewer hands, it is creating alarmingly narrow control over what a large segment of society look to, to try and interpret the world around them. I am not so arrogant as to pretend to have explic- it directions to follow. I do, however, believe a creation of movement is possible through the transmission of hope. We may need to look within ourselves and ask: What we are going to need of ourselves? To picture in our minds what it means to be a leader. By creating leaders in our spirit we can see true leaders in others. It is not acceptable to con- tinue to turn our lives over to strangers that pacify us with stories of translucent characters with no substance! I cherished the chance I had to talk with Svend Robinson last summer. An individual I greatly admire, for many reasons, only one of which is his sincere commitment to democracy. He has had his share of critics. Hatchetmen that have tried to tear him down. Still, Svend Robinson has maintained his integrity and position. Since I talked with him he has decided not to vie for Glen Clarke’s old job. But I think that if Svend Robinson were to change his mind it would be a great benefit to British Columbia as a whole.
