THE STUDENTS’ CLUB REPORT O the members of the Art Students’ Club: Fellow Students: In submitting the Third Annual Report it is very encour- aging to note the development and expansion of our programme during the past year. The Paint Box Annual was a great advance over those of former years—artistically, financially, and in literary content. The Editor, Sybil Hill; the Art Editor, Peter Meilleur; and the Business Man- ager, K. Harrison, are all to be congratulated on their success. The magazine was illustrated entirely by woodcuts designed and cut by the students, which materially lessened the cost of illustrations, and a profit of $92.93 was made after the sale of nearly 500 copies. A new departure was the holding of an exhibition of students’ sum- mer work. We hope this will be an annual event and become an exhibition of importance. An interesting feature of the affair was a sweepstake, the holder of the winning number could chose any picture in the exhibition—the money going to the painter of the picture. The Christmas Play this year was a much greater undertaking than that of last year. It was a modern rendering of a play of the Middle Ages, called ‘‘A Pageant of the Holy Grail.’’ An extra perform- ance was given at the request of Mr. Scott, our Director, for the Arts and Letters Club, of which he is President. At both perform- ances a collection was taken, and $45.25 was realized, which was donated to the Sun and Province Santa Claus Funds. In connec- tion with this I might mention that The Arts Students’ Club par- ticipated in three tag days, namely: Poppy Day, Grace Hospital, and Crippled Children. As a Social supplement to our Closing Exercises in June, the stu- dents again held a Tea in the Community Room which was attended by nearly three hundred students and their friends. The tea tables were presided over by the wives of the donors of Scholarships, and music for the occasion was supplied through the kindness of Hilda Rigby. In the evening Mr. Vanderpant very generously lent his gallery for a closing dance, which made a delightful finish to our school year. Other entertainments taking place during the year were: An ‘‘Out of Date Fashion Show,” by the Second Year Class, which proved to be a riot of fun; a playlet called ‘‘Wanted a Wife,” by the First Year Class; and, at the beginning of the Fall Session, a Party in honour of the new students.
