in tho past forty years the. U.S.8.R. has developed
from a proletarian state to one of the world's industrial
giants. It would seem that the arts have suffered from this
crash industrialization program. But is Russian art out of
date? Has the West produced anything of significance during
the last fifty years? Can we really justify abstract and non-
representational art?

Perhaps the Soviet Union has o right to neglect the
arts in.an effort. to develop the Tull potential of its natural
resources, Or is it that the advance of technology has re-
placed the need for self expression through the arts?
