= * z ay } My condolences to all those making love on Wednesday expecting the "Earth to move''; the good Mother Earth refused to budge in face of the Jupiterian fizzle. But not to despair, you cosmological buff(oon)s, perhaps something will come, so to ct with the arrival of Haley's Space Rock! While anger rps through the Ceremics Department, one will notice How pot-making is 'suffering' from a lack of enthusiasts. This Iwill come as a shock to iene like me that insist on the ceramics = pottery equation. Last year's shelves of crockery have been replaced ‘in the main, by a wealth of creative, clay-based sculpture. Part- icularly noteworthy is the work of Ron Sawatskty, whose ''Three-eyed Politician! sculpture you may have seen outidé Bridges Wine-Bar. At his workspace sits a hook and hanging rack for people, which ‘could have given Caligula a good idea. In a finer and joyous vein, ‘rides his ''Free Wheelin''' biker, a magnificently crafted piece using clay, metal, and resin, on a glazed stone. This unique sculpture is well worth the paces you'll make to get to the East Side. Often missed by many marching from ''A'' to ''B'' in the hallways ‘is the printmakers' showcase. Currently behind the locked glass containers is the work of Stephen Denslow and Mark Furney, two ‘schizophrenic artists divide their time between printing and paint- ‘ing, but don't appear to be suffering pathologically or artistically. Also on display are works by Orin Duncan and Leslie Poole (a guest ° artist). One work which will be noticed is situated in the stair- well near Inter-D: an explicit evidence of a nasty shaving accident... Every year one may hear, if one cares to listen, similar com- plaints brewing in Foundation, from the High Schoolish orientation to the lack of personal working space. One need only check out Room 241 to get a taste of the concern: a ludicrously crowded condition v¥ing for a limited number of easels and sharing space with a jumble of drafting tables. Intriguing it is as well to see a collection of Picassos, Van Goghs, etc., freshly painted by students under the guidance (thumb) of a Burtonian education... Telling from the limited number of artsy beavers to be found at school this Sunday, one may suppose most were engaged in research- ing the summer sun's return. Shalom till next week,
