Firstly, while there is no good time to nave to func- tion without two key administrative person- nel, the staff in the Student Services and Facilities are extremely capable of carrying on with their duties. We are attempting to replace the positions of Facilities Manager and Registrar as soon as possible and adver- tisements have been run in the paper the last two weekends. In the meantime Alan Barkley will be the Acting Registrar and I will be the Acting Facilities Manager. We have also recently received the (rom the Bursar resignations of the Financial Aid Officer and a support staff member from the Facilities Office. Advertisements have already been placed for the Financial Aid position but this resignation should not cause students too much inconvenience as the application deadline for all loans for this school hear has passed. Applications for the following school hear will not start being processed until May. We will be replacing the support position in Facilities immediately with an individual on a temporary contract until we can fill the position permanently. The recent increase of hours in the counselling and admissions areas should assist students through the rest of the term. Student counselling services have been expanded to cover a 35 hour week, Monday through Friday, admission advising services have been expanded to cover full days Mon- day through Thursday and Friday afternoon. While I appreciate that there may be some bumps along the way I am confident that we can manage until we are again operating with a full staff complement. AB: jp February 8, 1989 Mrs. Patricia Bovey Chair, ECCAD Board of Directors C/O Art Gallery of Greater Victoria 1040 Moss Street Victoria, B.C. V8V 4PL Dear Pat and Fellow Board Members: ~ I think most of you know me as the wave maker continualiy searching for a degree program or trying to acquire extended hours for our students. Our Emily Carr ship was brought to a grinding halt on February 2, 1989. This past week has been one of stress and ioss of sleep for myself and many of my colieagues. I have worked a iong time with Doug and Tom (fifteen years). At first I found it hard to work with these two people because of our strong willis and vaiues, but shortiy I uncovered two beautiful and indispensible people to our intertwined art school family. There is a strong solidarity on this among the artists that have been hired by this art college. How can we who have worked so intensely long with these two peopie be so wrong and the two and one-half year old President be so right on this judgement? May I suggest closer ties between Board members and the professionai artists that teach at the Emily Carr Celiege cf Art.and Desisx. = fear we are adrift and gcing aground. ‘For the pasz thirty vears I have worked in many, 6 to be exact, of the best art colleges in North America. Gco@ art colleges sre ea cciiecticn cf prefessicnal creative artists including its captain, who understands how to orchestrate an environment where art and creativity can happen. Together we navigate the horizon and avoid the icebergs. Ail of my experience tells me that we are moving away from this creative environment and steering intc the rocks. Our captain is working in isolation from the crew on this vessel cailed Emiiy Carr. Sincerely, Bob Evermon Head of Lithography ce: A.
