75 word abuse What What! Emily Carr Bathroom November 22, 2000 Rant : by Frequent Pooper Normally | wouldn't make such a fuss about missing rolls of toilet paper from the mens washroom stalls, but when it hap- pened for the fourth time in two weeks | decided to voice a complaint to facilities. What the heck was wrong with those kind janitors from last year that they would be replaced by the hapless staff this year that don’t seem to recognize toilet paper as a bathroom necessity? | am deeply distressed. P.S. | don't normally carry a bounty of receipts with me but | just might have to start. A Rakes Progress by Igor Stravinsky Queen Elizabeth Theatre November 15,21,23,25 Opera Review by Corinna vanGerwen The Rakes progress, staged by the Vancouver Opera, was one of the most painful operatic events that I’ve had the displeasure of experiencing. The first mistake was made when Stavinsky wrote the damned thing; but the person who made the erroneous decision to try and capitalize on the recent frenzy of the poor-man-becom- ing-millionaire fad, should be hung. The music was trite, the costumes erratic, and the vocals weak. And it was in English! With sur-titles! | left at intermission along with half of the audience Hey emcarr kids! Do you want to go to concerts, plays, and movies for free? Stop by the influx office (room 140 - across00 from printmaking) and talk to me (Ben Smith). | wil trade you free tickets to whatever you want (first come first serve) for a 75 word review that will appear as a Driveby review. Corrections: 1. In the November issue the final two paragraphs were cut from Laiwan Chung's article And Your Flesh Will Be Made Word: How to Smooth the Transition From Your Old Analogue Body to an Ideal Body of Information. We apologize for the error. What follows is the reman- der of that article. running on the treadmill with the mojave on the monitor in front of you is the same deal. you're not really running, it’s only a motion, a function of running to stop your body's atrophy, and you're not in the mojave either. it's a raw deal because it’s neither-nor. not only are we forgetting what cyberspace is all about, we're forgetting what running is all about...freedom! wind in the hair; the smell of meadows, of wild grass; pebbles, sand, puddles at your feet; birds and clouds; bugs and beetles; sun and rain... an endless variety everyday. and so as Donna Haraway says “bodies are not born, they are made" [2], we cari add reality is not natural...it is also made. and to get out of this insistent transition which has become like a bad funk, we have to become conscious of it, make some choices, aim for quality (in life and being) and throw out this neither-nor junk. 2. In the November issue Wai Lee should have been listed under the contributing designers. We apologize for the omission. 75 word abuse What What! Emily Carr Bathroom.
