Memento is designed to be simple, sculptural and , most importantly, ambiguous. It is an emotional and personal object which approaches ideas of death, mourning, ritual practice and cultural experience. Memento re-imagines the relationship between the bereaved and the urn by integrating experiences of mourning into the use of the object. Rituals begin to play a large role here as memento offers not only a vessel for cremated remains but a vessel for small mourning rituals. By bringing these intrinsic elements together, the bereaved can reflect on their loss through an understated and interpretive object.
