Our piece 'Smoke and Mirrors" is a collage of movement and emotion that expresses how we felt during quarantine. It is an intimate, visual dance film about the longing for one’s touch, the inescapable desire to connect with another person when physical touch is not possible. It also expresses the cycle that we lived day to day stuck in our homes and the confusing uncertainty we had to work through physically and emotionally. Although this film is an interpretation of an unpleasant time, we also celebrate the gift of movement that helped us cope and hope of connecting once again. |

Novel Movement, is an emerging collective of dancers based in Surrey. We started our dance journey as teammates in a competitive crew and over the years our friendship deepened as we continue to be passionate about creating art through movement. We build this collective together to push dance to new boundaries and share our perspectives to the community. As a group of asian artists, we would be honoured to be a part of this collection. |
