Part I: "Recommended Readings" - The conceptual/metaphorical movements broadly reference how librarians related to other ECU community members (staff and other faculty members), the nature of these relationships in the context of power, hierarchy, and agency. Movement prompts: workload, inviting, mystifying, contributing, scope creep, bumped, undervalued, collaboration, vigilent. Part II: "Professional Gestures" - This piece alludes to actual physical movements undertaken by librarians in the course of their workdays (e.g., office labour, the labour of providing instruction and research support services to library users, etc.) and labour that is more conceptual or metaphorical in nature. A STUDY OF MOVEMENTS RELATED TO THE LABOUR OF MANAGING INFORMATION was collaboratively choreographed by the team of three ECU librarians (Ana Diab, Vanessa Kam and Hillary Webb) and was performed 5 times from November - December 2023 in the Libby Leshgold Gallery as part of the Emily Carr University of Art and Design Faculty Exhibition: This Exhibition is Not an Exhibition, organized and curated by sessional faculty members Patryk Tom and Valérie Walker. Responding to Climate Change Through Art and Design includes work that envisions an eco-utopia, expresses concern about the environment or documents climate change through creative practice. Drawings, prints, paintings, sculptures, multimedia works and installations by members of the ECU community including students, alumni, staff and faculty, explore the impact of climate change and highlight the urgent need for action. The effects of climate change are already being felt locally and around the world, with wildfire smoke, flooding, loss of biodiversity and the displacement of human and non-human populations. Through this exhibition, we showcase a variety of ways artists and designers are responding to the climate crisis. We hope to amplify direct action and movements that address climate change, from hosting community events, engaging with non-human life, protesting, mapping, using sustainable materials, and more. The exhibition was curated by Ana Diab, Michael Pollard, Kristy Waller and Hillary Webb, and includes work by Amory Abbott, Maru Aponte, Emilia Belliveu-Thompson, Andrea Bollen, Giulia Borba, Gwenyth Chao, Ella Emsheimer, Lori Goldberg, Danya Gorodetsky, Erick Jantzen, Vjeko Sager, Jade Sawotin, Emma Somers and Bobbi Kozinuk, Ayako Takagi, and Rita Wong. Ultimately, we hope that this exhibition will inspire visitors to take action to address climate change, and to join the growing movement for a more sustainable and equitable future.

A series of hand-built pottery forms, fired at the Potters Guide of BC Community Gas Kiln in June 2022. Pieces are built using P700 - Grolleg kaolin porcelain (cone 10) using slab, coil, mold, carved, and pinched hand building techniques.

This project was done with a kindergarten class (ages 5-6) at Lord Strathcona Elementary, in the Downtown Eastside neighbourhood of Strathcona in Vancouver BC. This was my son’s class and he assisted with making the sample I based the project from. He also helped with the explanation of the project to his classmates. Some of the children had worked with clay before, but for most this was their first opportunity. They were excited to learn about ceramics as a practice, and the steps involved in making something out of clay. This project can be adapted by others looking for a simple and engaging clay project. The adults who work in the classroom enjoyed making the plagues as much as the students.

In this workshop, Hillary Webb will give a virtual tour of the Emily Carr University’s institutional repository system (Islandora), an overview of the kinds of research + creation accepted to the repository, an explanation of the non-exclusive distribution license, and walk-through of the self-submission process and setting up a profile page. Hand-in-hand with setting up a profile page is the process of registering for a personal persistent digital identifier (ORCID). A researcher’s ORCID can be used when submitting their work for publication, submitting grant applications, and in any research workflow to ensure their work gets recognized. After the demonstration, Hillary will be available to assist ECU researchers with setting up a profile page and registering for an ORCID. "Submitting research to eCollections at Emily Carr, including ORCID Registration and How to Make a Researcher Profile," is a workshop given by Hillary Webb on October 14th, 2020, as part of the series "Digital + Creative Knowledge Sharing: Data Management in Creative Research."
